ference Recording Metallic Acetate from 1974 - UNIQUE !!!
This 46 years old acetate comes from a major collection, acquired from an RCA executive (certified original).
After buying the Philips/Mercury David Bowie catalogue in 1972, RCA had plans to do a compilation mostly with various studio outtakes and unreleased songs, which didn't happen. A holy grail.
Tracks are mostly unreleased at the time):
    A1 Velvet Goldmine (3’09’’)
    A2 Holy Holy (2’20’’)
    A3 Round And Round (2’40’’)
    A4 Port Of Amsterdam (3’20’’)
    B1 The Prettiest Star (3’05’’)
    B2 London Bye Ta-Ta (2’35’’)
    B3 Conversation Piece (3’05’’)
    B4 Holy Holy (3’10’’)
Sound clips from transfer are available here: https://we.tl/t-2pNpskLLQ0
There is some saturation, but this comes from the transfer, acetates are with very high levels, I will get a better trasnfer done and provide it with the acetate,
Acetates are not like pressed vinyl records. They are made of an aluminium plate coated with a cellulose-based lacquer and processed directly from the master tape using a cutting lathe. They are expensive and fragile, and cutting requires time and expertise.
    Three types of acetates exist:
    -
    Studio/Playback acetates
, usually cut during the recording sessions to evaluate the song or for the manager to look for a record label or transfer as demo samples to existing record company for evaluation/feedback.
    These often contain alternate versions and usually only a handful are cut;
    -
    Mastering/Reference acetates
, usually cut at the record company for internal evaluation purposes. These sometimes contain alternate mixes or previously unreleaed material (like this one); and
    -
    Production acetates
, these are cut to produce the stampers/matrices, thus contain finished songs as released and most are destroyed during the process.
